Drawing on my varied experience with many teachers, I'll help you grow as a group, and as individual improvisers.
A workshop for musical directors, accompanists and soloists or improvisers wishing to take tools back home to work with their musical directors.
We’ll look at some music theory as well the practical communication between band members and actors, with useful tips on how to play in genre and more.
This workshop requires a balance of musician improvisers, acting improvisers and those that are happy to swap between. Or if you have a group of musicians only we can bring some advanced singer improvisers to work with.
Improvised songs can be just as good if not better than written ones. We’ll look at song structures, lyrics, poetry, motif and game of the song to create fully rounded pieces. We’ll explore the transition from scene into song. What makes a scene go from talking to singing? When is it the right moment? How can a song raise the stakes or make us understand a character? We’ll also look at the content of emotional songs, autobiographical songs and how they can bring dramatic and theatrical moments to life in improv.
Longform improvised musicals are one of the most intense, joyful and brave formats for an improviser. If you want to take your musical improv to the next level, this workshop will focus on intense listening, commitment and support as well as some technical skills useful for performing improvised musicals such as song structures and big group numbers. We will also look at handling narrative or theme, lyrics and choreography.
Want to tell realistic and engaging love stories on stage? Want to play scenes apart from the meet-cute and the break-up?
Drawing on techniques developed by Heather and Jules for Ten Thousand Million Love Stories and inspired by Rama Nicholas of Impro Melbourne, this workshop will look at how you can create onstage trust with our fellow players and take your scenes to a deeply connected emotional place.
During this workshop, you will explore classic romantic situations and also have fun with love stories in unexpected places. This workshop involves physical contact and can be challenging for some people. But don’t worry, all the clothes stay on. This workshop is about emotional, not physical intimacy.
A supportive, joyous and safe environment for any age or ability to explore the world of improvising with music. We’ll cover a range of music styles, games and song structures. Really useful for those who want to give it a go but need a safe environment to let their musical hair down. Also suitable for those who want a fun refresh and introduction to some new exercises.
